Forest Fire Spreading Using Free and Open-Source GIS Technologies

چکیده
Forest fires are one of the most dangerous events, causing serious land and environmental degradation. Indeed, besides loss a huge quantity plant species, effects can go far beyond: desertification, increased risk landslides, soil erosion, death animals, etc. For these reasons, mathematical models able to predict fire spreading needed in order organize optimize extinguishing interventions during emergencies. This work presents new system simulate movement front based on free open source Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies Rothermel surface spread model, with adjustments made by Albini. We describe used, provide an overview GIS design implementation, present results some simulations at Etna volcano (Sicily, Italy), characterized high geomorphological heterogeneity, where native flora fauna may be preserved perpetuated. The consist raster maps representing progress times starting from ignition point as function topography wind directions. reliability is strictly affected correct positioning point, accuracy that describes morphology territory, setting meteorological conditions moment propagation fire.

Modeling a Historic Forest Fire Using Gis and Farsite
Recent major wildfires may result from a combination of climate change and fuel buildup due to fire exclusion policies of the last century. Are such fires unique to the forests and climate of the 21st century or are they similar to historic fires? Historic fires are recorded primarily by eye witness accounts which seldom contain information needed to examine them with modern fire management too...
متن کاملForest Fire Damage Estimation Using Remote Sensing and GIS
Forest fires have been causing serious damages and threats in Turkey especially over Aegean and Mediterranean Regions. Damage assessment as the result of a forest fire occurred on 10th August 2009 in Seferihisar district of Izmir, Turkey was conducted in this study. SPOT 4 images obtained before (01.08.2008) and after (31.08.2009) the fire were used in this study. Several digital image processi...
متن کاملGRASS as Open Source Free Software GIS: Accomplishments and Perspectives
Over the past decade Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have entered many new disciplines and have become part of general computational infrastructure. Therefore it is not surprising that geoinformation technology is also being developed within the Open Source and Free Software community, well known for its GNU/Linux system. The concept of “Free Software” was first defined by Richard M. Stall...
متن کاملInvestigation of forest fire hazard areas in Golestan province based on fire risk system index (FRSI) using the technique (GIS)
Abstract Fire in natural resources is one of the crises that causes irreparable damage to ecosystems and the environment every year. The purpose of this research is to attempt to study areas of risk aversion and to prepare a map of forest fire hazard area by integrating topographic data and other additional information from a GIS system for Golestan province. In order to carry out this resear...
